Do you need a visa

Most Western and Latin American passports enter Colombia visa free as tourists. This includes the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, all European Union countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador and many more. Check the Cancilleria Colombia website for the full list if your country is not obvious.

Length of stay

  • Initial stamp: 90 days on arrival
  • Extension: up to 90 more days at Migracion Colombia
  • Maximum per year: 180 days total per calendar year
  • Reset: January 1 resets the clock

Entry requirements

  1. Passport valid at least 6 months beyond entry date
  2. Proof of onward travel (outbound flight or bus ticket)
  3. Sometimes proof of hotel reservation or funds
  4. Yellow fever vaccination if coming from certain countries or going to Amazon or Choco

Extending your stay

Before your first 90 days expire, visit a Migracion Colombia office in any major city. Bring your passport, a copy of your entry stamp, an outbound ticket and 120,000 COP. Most offices process the extension the same day. Do not overstay: fines are up to 900,000 COP and can block future entries.

Visa on arrival vs e-visa

Colombia does not use an e-visa system for short stay tourists from visa-free countries. The stamp is given at immigration on arrival. If your passport is not on the visa-free list, you must apply at a Colombian consulate before traveling.
